Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said his administration will not focus on sharing handouts as a way of fighting poverty. Instead, he explained that the government is committed to creating an environment where businesses can grow and people can earn a living with dignity.
The governor noted that short-term giveaways do not solve long-lasting economic problems. According to him, sustainable development comes from policies that support investment, improve infrastructure, and encourage entrepreneurship across the state.
Makinde added that his government is prioritising job creation through agriculture, small and medium-scale enterprises, and skills development programmes. These efforts, he said, are designed to help residents become self-reliant rather than dependent on government support.
He assured citizens that the goal is to build a strong economy that lifts people out of poverty permanently. By creating the right conditions for growth, the administration believes more households will enjoy stable income and better living standards.
