Burna Boy, Olamide, others make Obama’s favourite music of 2025

Former United States President Barack Obama has released his yearly list of favourite books, movies, and music for 2025, and Nigerian artistes have made a strong impression. As he does every year, Obama shared the list to celebrate songs that stood out to him over the past year.

Among the songs selected were Tatata by Burna Boy featuring Travis Scott and 99 by Olamide, which features Daecolm, Seyi Vibez, Asake, and Young John. British-Nigerian singer Obongjayar also made the list with his song Not In Surrender, adding to the growing presence of Nigerian-linked talents on the global stage.

Obama’s list also included popular international stars such as Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Lady Gaga, Gunna, and Drake. The mix of genres and cultures shows the former president’s wide music taste and how African music continues to gain worldwide attention.

Sharing the list on social media, Obama said the tradition started during his time in the White House and has continued ever since. He explained that the aim is to help people discover new music and enjoy sounds from different parts of the world, including Africa’s fast-rising Afrobeats scene.
