President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The move is aimed at strengthening the power sector regulator and improving electricity supply across the country.
According to government sources, the newly reconstituted board is expected to provide better oversight and direction for Nigeria’s electricity industry. The appointments come at a time when the government is pushing key reforms to stabilise power generation, transmission and distribution.
The Tinubu administration believes that a functional and professional NERC board will help enforce regulations, protect consumers and encourage more private sector investment in the electricity sector. Stakeholders have long complained about inefficiencies and poor service delivery in the power industry.
With the new board in place, Nigerians are hopeful that power sector reforms will move faster. Analysts say the success of the reconstituted NERC board will depend on transparency, accountability and the political will to implement tough decisions.
