A Federal High Court has restrained the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from removing the party’s chairman in Cross River State. The court order followed a legal challenge over attempts to dismiss the chairman from office before the expiration of his tenure.
According to the ruling, the court directed that the status quo should be maintained until the substantive case is fully heard and determined. This means that the chairman should continue to function in his position, while APC and INEC were warned against taking any action that could undermine the ongoing legal process.
The judge stressed that political parties must operate within the framework of the law and respect due process in internal disputes. The court also noted that removing an elected party official without following laid-down procedures could lead to chaos within the party structure.
Supporters of the chairman welcomed the ruling, describing it as a victory for justice and fairness. The case has been adjourned to a later date, as party members and political observers continue to monitor developments within the Cross River APC.
