2027: I will not be vice president to anybody – Amaechi rejects deputizing Atiku

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has made it clear that he will not accept the role of vice president to anyone ahead of the 2027 general elections. Reacting to speculations about a possible alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Amaechi said he is not interested in deputising any presidential candidate.

Amaechi explained that his position is based on personal conviction and political principle. According to him, if he chooses to contest in 2027, it would be with the intention to lead, not to serve as a second-in-command. He added that leadership requires clarity of purpose, not political compromise driven by ambition.

Addressing reports linking him to Atiku’s camp, the former Rivers State governor dismissed the claims as unfounded. He stressed that no such agreement exists and warned against spreading assumptions that could mislead the public about his political plans.

Amaechi also noted that discussions about 2027 are still premature, urging Nigerians to focus more on governance and national issues. However, his firm stance has sparked fresh debate within opposition circles about possible alliances and power-sharing ahead of the next presidential race.
