2027: Benue Govt directs political appointees nursing ambitions to resign

The Benue State Government has directed all political appointees who plan to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign from their current positions. The directive is aimed at ensuring fairness, discipline and full commitment to governance among those who remain in office.

According to the government, public office holders should not use their positions as an advantage to pursue personal political goals. Officials explained that those with political ambitions should step aside early so they can focus on their campaigns without distracting the administration or misusing government resources.

The directive also serves as a reminder that public service comes with responsibility. The state government stressed that governance should not suffer because of early politicking, adding that only appointees fully dedicated to their duties should continue in office.

Political observers say the move could help reduce internal conflicts and promote transparency ahead of the 2027 elections. It also sends a clear message that ambition must not override accountability in Benue State.
