The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly has said lawmakers in opposition parties often face serious challenges when trying to attract development projects to their constituencies. He explained that political alignment plays a big role in how easily projects are approved and funded.
According to the Speaker, most constituency projects require close cooperation between lawmakers and the executive arm of government. When a lawmaker belongs to an opposition party, this working relationship may not be smooth, making it harder for community needs to receive quick attention.
He stressed that the situation does not mean opposition areas are completely neglected. However, he admitted that political differences can slow down decision-making and affect how resources are shared across constituencies.
The Edo Speaker advised lawmakers to put the interests of their people first by building dialogue and cooperation across party lines. He added that effective engagement remains the best way to ensure communities benefit from government programmes.
