The United States has warned that it will take action in response to Rwanda’s alleged violation of an agreement meant to reduce tensions in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo). US officials said they are closely monitoring the situation as violence continues in the eastern part of the country.
According to Washington, the agreement was designed to promote peace and stability in the region, but recent developments suggest that Rwanda may not be fully complying with its commitments. The US stressed that respecting international agreements is critical to ending long-running conflicts in Central Africa.
The US government also called on all parties involved to return to dialogue and avoid actions that could worsen the humanitarian crisis. It emphasized the need to protect civilians, especially those already displaced by fighting between armed groups and government forces.
US officials added that diplomatic and other measures remain on the table if violations continue. They reaffirmed America’s support for regional peace efforts and urged African and international partners to work together to restore calm in DR Congo.
