Former Minister of Power under President Buhari, Saleh Mamman, has lost his attempt to stop the trial over an alleged N33.8 billion fraud. The court dismissed his application, allowing legal proceedings to continue. The case relates to accusations of mismanagement and financial irregularities during his time in office.
Mamman had argued that the trial should be paused, citing procedural and legal concerns. However, the presiding judge ruled that there was no valid reason to halt the proceedings. This decision ensures that the anti-corruption authorities can continue their investigation and prosecution.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had earlier charged Mamman with multiple counts of fraud. The N33.8 billion in question reportedly involved contracts and payments linked to electricity projects during his tenure. The commission emphasized that no one is above the law, regardless of past positions.
Legal experts say the court ruling reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to accountability and transparency in public office. Mamman’s lawyers indicated they may explore other legal options, but the trial is set to move forward. The case has drawn national attention due to its scale and the profile of the accused.
