President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the temporary opening of the road linking Bonny Island to the mainland to ease movement for travellers. The decision is meant to reduce transport difficulties faced by residents, businesses, and visitors who rely heavily on water transport to access the island.
According to government officials, the road will be opened for a limited period to allow safe passage while construction and final safety checks continue. Security personnel and traffic officials have been deployed to ensure order and prevent accidents during the temporary use of the route.
Residents of Bonny Island welcomed the development, describing it as a major relief after years of depending on boats and ferries. Many said the road access would help lower travel costs, improve emergency response, and boost economic activities in the area.
The federal government assured the public that work on the permanent completion of the road remains ongoing. Authorities urged travellers to obey traffic rules and cooperate with officials to ensure a smooth and safe experience throughout the temporary opening.
