Northern politicians not ready for State Police – Mahdi Shehu

Mahdi Shehu, a political analyst, has stated that northern politicians are not yet ready to implement State Police in Nigeria. According to him, there are concerns about security control and political influence if state police are introduced. He believes that careful planning is needed before making such a significant change.

Shehu explained that while State Police could improve security, northern political leaders fear losing control over local forces. He emphasized that proper measures must be in place to prevent misuse or partisan influence of these security bodies.

The analyst further warned that rushing the establishment of State Police could lead to conflicts and insecurity. He urged stakeholders to engage in thorough discussions and consider regional concerns before implementing any reforms.

Finally, Shehu appealed to both political leaders and the public to prioritize national security over political interests. He suggested that reforms must be gradual and include all regions to ensure a balanced approach.
