Two Zamfara Assembly members resign from APC, one defects to PDP

Two members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have stepped down from the All Progressives Congress (APC), with one of them officially switching to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Their decisions were confirmed in separate letters read during the House plenary. The lawmakers said their exit was due to internal issues in the APC that made it difficult for them to continue in the party.

According to their letters, the lawmakers accused the APC of failing to address key concerns affecting their constituencies. One of them said he was left with no choice but to defect to the PDP, which he believes offers better opportunities for service and political inclusion. The second lawmaker resigned completely from APC but has not yet announced his next political direction.

The defection sparked reactions among Assembly members, with some saying the development reflects deeper divisions within the APC in Zamfara. Others noted that shifts like this are becoming more common as political alignments change ahead of the next election cycle.

The House leadership acknowledged the resignations and urged all members to stay focused on their legislative duties. Residents have expressed mixed feelings, with some supporting the lawmakers’ decisions and others calling for stability within political parties to ensure effective governance.
