Ogun govt trains medical personnel on obstetrics to reduce child mortality

The Ogun State government has launched a new training programme for medical workers to improve their skills in obstetrics and reduce child mortality rates. According to officials, the training focuses on safe delivery practices, early detection of complications, and emergency response during childbirth. The government said the initiative is part of its wider plan to strengthen maternal and child healthcare across the state.

Health experts leading the programme explained that many childbirth-related deaths can be prevented when health workers are properly trained. They added that the sessions will cover topics like managing high-risk pregnancies, newborn care, and using modern medical equipment. By improving the capacity of doctors, nurses, and midwives, the state hopes to make hospitals safer for mothers and babies.

Participants in the training expressed appreciation to the government, saying the knowledge will help them deliver better results in their various facilities. Some noted that rural communities especially need skilled medical workers because they face higher risks due to limited access to quality healthcare. They believe the training will create a positive impact in these areas.

The Ogun government assured residents that it will continue to invest in health programmes aimed at protecting women and children. It also encouraged mothers to seek antenatal care and deliver in approved health centres where qualified personnel are available. The state emphasised that reducing child mortality is a major priority and requires cooperation from both health workers and families.
