A new report by ASF France has revealed that 82 Nigerian women are currently on death row in different countries. According to the organization, many of the women were arrested for offences linked to trafficking, drug-related crimes, or may have been victims of exploitation. ASF France said the shocking number shows how vulnerable Nigerian women are when they travel abroad without proper protection or support.
The group explained that some of the women did not get fair trials due to language barriers, lack of legal representation, or poor understanding of foreign laws. They added that several of these women claimed they were forced or deceived into criminal activities by traffickers and criminal networks. ASF France is calling for more legal intervention from the Nigerian government and international partners.
Human rights activists are urging Nigerian authorities to step in and negotiate for clemency, retrials, or possible repatriation of some of the women. They stressed that no Nigerian should face death row without adequate legal defence. The report also encouraged the government to strengthen campaigns against human trafficking to prevent more women from falling into dangerous traps abroad.
ASF France further appealed for humanitarian support, noting that many of the women are living in harsh prison conditions with little access to medical care. They believe that raising global awareness is the first step to pressuring foreign governments to review the cases. Nigerians are also encouraged to stay informed about risks associated with traveling illegally or trusting unknown agents.
