The Katsina Institute has raised alarm over the worsening unemployment crisis facing National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) graduates. According to the institute, a growing number of young Nigerians completing their service year are struggling to secure meaningful employment.
The institute explained that despite acquiring skills during their NYSC programs, graduates are finding it difficult to translate these experiences into job opportunities. Many are left idle or forced into informal work with little pay, affecting their economic stability.
Experts have urged the government to implement targeted programs that will absorb NYSC graduates into the workforce. Initiatives like skill development, entrepreneurship support, and public-private partnerships were recommended to curb rising unemployment.
The situation has sparked concern among parents and youth advocates who emphasize that failure to address the crisis could lead to social unrest and diminished productivity. Stakeholders are calling for urgent interventions to ensure graduates’ contributions benefit the economy.
