Senator Ali Ndume has urged the Federal Government to reduce the cost of running the National Assembly so that more funds can be channelled into improving national security. He said the country is facing serious security challenges, and it is necessary to prioritise spending on safety instead of maintaining expensive legislative operations.
Ndume noted that the budget allocated to the National Assembly is too high compared to the current economic and security situation in Nigeria. According to him, trimming the cost will free up significant resources that can be used to support the military, police and other security agencies who are overstretched in the fight against crime and terrorism.
He stressed that Nigerians must be protected first before focusing on political comfort. The senator added that improving security will also boost economic activities, attract investment and restore confidence among citizens, especially in communities affected by banditry and insurgency.
Ndume called on the government, lawmakers and stakeholders to show leadership by making the necessary sacrifices. He insisted that reducing unnecessary spending is one of the fastest ways to increase security funding and demonstrate genuine commitment to solving Nigeria’s insecurity crisis.
