The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has suspended Guinea-Bissau following a recent military coup. The regional body condemned the overthrow of the elected government and urged a swift return to constitutional rule.

ECOWAS emphasized that the suspension means Guinea-Bissau will no longer participate in the community’s meetings and decision-making processes until democracy is restored. The organization warned the military leaders that prolonged disruption could lead to further sanctions.

Officials stated that ECOWAS remains committed to peace, stability, and democratic governance in West Africa. They called on the junta to engage in dialogue with all stakeholders to resolve the crisis peacefully.
