Premier League legend Alan Shearer says he fully understands the frustration of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, as the champions struggle to maintain momentum in the title race. Shearer noted that despite City’s strong squad and experience, their recent performances have shown signs of inconsistency that could affect their chances of defending the Premier League crown.
According to Shearer, Guardiola has every reason to be concerned because City are dropping points in games they normally dominate. He explained that other top teams are taking advantage of City’s slip-ups, making the title race tighter than expected. Shearer added that when a team sets high standards like Manchester City, even small mistakes become big issues.
The former Newcastle striker also pointed out that City’s defence has looked vulnerable in recent matches, something opponents have quickly exploited. He believes the team must return to their usual rhythm, improve concentration and bring back the intensity that has made them champions in recent seasons. Shearer stressed that a club like City cannot afford long periods of poor form.
Shearer concluded that the Premier League race is far from over, but City must react quickly if they want to stay ahead of their rivals. He urged the players to step up, especially during important fixtures, to ease Guardiola’s concerns. With several tough matches ahead, the coming weeks could determine whether City remain favourites or fall behind in the title chase.
