5G, microwave ovens’ radiation, radio waves depreciate human health cause cancer – Experts warn Nigerians

A group of Nigerian commentators and health advocates have raised public concerns about the increasing exposure to 5G networks, microwave ovens and radio wave–emitting devices, warning that long-term use might pose risks to human health. They argue that Nigerians should be more aware of the electromagnetic radiation around them, especially as modern technology continues to expand across homes, offices and public spaces.

The experts explained that although many international studies consider low-level radiation from communication devices to be safe, Nigerians should still practise caution by limiting unnecessary exposure. They noted that people often use gadgets for long hours without understanding how electromagnetic waves work. In their view, adopting safer habits—such as keeping devices at distance when possible—could help reduce long-term health risks.

However, several scientific bodies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), maintain that radiation from 5G, microwave ovens, and radio waves is non-ionising, meaning it does not break DNA or directly cause cancer. The Nigerian health advocates clarified that their intention is not to spark fear but to encourage more research, transparency and public education, especially in a country where technological literacy is still growing.

The warning has sparked fresh conversations among Nigerians about everyday exposure to electronic devices. While global science continues to study the effects of long-term electromagnetic exposure, the experts believe that awareness, moderation and proper regulation are essential. They urged the government and telecom operators to keep sharing verified information to help Nigerians stay informed and safe.
