Amnesty International has raised serious concerns about the safety of schools in Northern Nigeria, citing increasing attacks on students and teachers. The human rights organization described the situation as alarming, warning that children’s education is at risk due to insecurity in the region.
The report highlights the frequent kidnappings, armed raids, and violent attacks targeting educational institutions. Amnesty International stressed that such violence not only threatens the lives of children but also disrupts their access to education, causing long-term social and developmental consequences.
Northern Nigerian communities have been urged to protect schools and ensure that children can learn in safe environments. Human rights advocates called on the government to strengthen security measures around schools and hold perpetrators accountable.
Amnesty International warned that without immediate action, more schools could be abandoned, and children could be deprived of education. The organization urged both national authorities and international partners to prioritize the safety of students and educational staff.
