Prosecute those behind attacks on Christians in Nigeria – Italian PM Meloni tells FG

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has called on the Nigerian government to take firm action against those responsible for violent attacks on Christian communities. She expressed deep concern over the rising cases of killings and abductions, urging the authorities to ensure justice for victims. According to Meloni, ignoring such attacks only encourages more violence.

Meloni stressed that every government has a duty to protect the lives and rights of its citizens, especially vulnerable groups facing repeated assaults. She noted that the continuous targeting of Christians in different parts of Nigeria must not be treated lightly. The Italian leader added that silence or slow response from security agencies sends the wrong message to attackers.

She further appealed to President Bola Tinubu’s administration to strengthen investigations and ensure that all perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted. Meloni said that justice must be served to restore peace and rebuild trust among affected families and communities. She urged stronger security operations in high-risk areas across the country.

The Italian Prime Minister also encouraged international cooperation to support Nigeria in tackling terrorism and religious violence. She maintained that global leaders cannot look away when innocent people are being attacked because of their faith. Meloni’s message adds to growing international pressure on Nigeria to end widespread insecurity and protect Christian communities.
