PDP: Convention properly, duly constituted – Ben Obi

Former national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ben Obi, has stated that the party’s recent convention was fully compliant with all legal and constitutional requirements. Obi explained that the gathering followed the PDP constitution and that every step taken—from delegate accreditation to decision-making—was done transparently and in line with established procedures. His statement comes amid concerns raised by some party members questioning the legitimacy of the process.

Obi stressed that the party leadership worked hard to avoid loopholes that could lead to internal disputes or court cases. According to him, the convention committee ensured that all zones, stakeholders, and interest groups were represented. He maintained that the party’s unity depends on respecting due process, particularly at such a crucial political moment. Obi added that those still expressing doubts may be misinformed or influenced by internal political interests.

He further noted that the PDP must stay focused as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections. Obi encouraged members to put aside grievances and concentrate on rebuilding the party’s strength across the country. He reiterated that legitimacy is key for the party to convince Nigerians that it is ready to govern again, and the convention’s credibility plays an important role in achieving that.

In closing, Obi appealed to party loyalists to work together rather than fight one another publicly. He reminded them that the opposition’s effectiveness depends on unity and discipline. According to him, the convention’s success shows the PDP can still conduct orderly internal affairs despite challenges, and this should be a foundation for future victories.
