The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to kick off a new waste management program across the territory. The initiative aims to improve sanitation, reduce environmental hazards, and streamline waste collection in Abuja.
During the meeting, Wike emphasized the importance of coordination between government agencies, private waste contractors, and community stakeholders. “Proper waste management is essential for the health and safety of our residents. This program will ensure cleaner streets, better recycling practices, and a more sustainable city,” he stated.
Officials briefed the minister on logistics, operational plans, and strategies to engage residents in proper waste disposal. Wike called for strict adherence to timelines and accountability from all parties involved.
The launch of this program comes amid growing concerns about environmental pollution and public health in the FCT. Residents are hopeful that the initiative will bring lasting improvements to waste collection and sanitation in the territory.
