Wike vs Military Land Dispute: Naval officer was unruly – FCT minister’s Aide

An aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended the minister’s actions in a recent confrontation involving a Naval officer over a land dispute in Abuja. According to the aide, the officer acted in an unruly manner during the incident, prompting Wike’s response.

The aide stated, “The Naval officer did not conduct himself appropriately. His behaviour was disorderly and unprofessional during the engagement, which led to the minister stepping in to assert authority over the matter.”

The dispute centers on allegations of illegal development on federal land in Abuja. The FCT administration has maintained that any unauthorised activities on government land will be halted to protect public property.

The aide emphasized that Wike’s intervention was not a personal attack on the military but a necessary action to enforce the law. “It is important to understand that this is about upholding regulations and ensuring proper conduct. The minister acted within his official capacity,” he added.

This explanation comes amid widespread media coverage and public debate over the incident, which has attracted reactions from politicians, legal experts, and civil society groups.

The FCT administration has called for calm and cautioned all parties to respect legal procedures while resolving land disputes.
