Enugu Govt arrests fake doctor, seals illegal hospital

The Enugu State Ministry of Health has arrested a fake doctor and sealed an illegal hospital in Obollo-Etiti, Udenu Local Government Area, for operating without a licence and endangering patients’ lives. The operation was confirmed in a statement by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Ugodu Avemaria, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, coordinated the raid, uncovering shocking evidence of unhygienic and unfit conditions at the facility. The fake doctor has been identified as Mr. Kenneth Mamah, who owned St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Ada-Ulo Obollo-Etiti Community.

“The enforcement team, acting on credible intelligence and complaints from residents, discovered that the facility was being used for surgical procedures and other medical practices in an environment grossly unfit for operative care,” Avemaria said.

The ministry confirmed that Mr. Mamah had no medical licence, no formal professional training, and no authorization from the Enugu State Ministry of Health. Despite this, he routinely conducted surgeries, putting residents who sought care at serious risk.

Authorities have urged the public to verify the credentials of medical practitioners and report suspicious facilities to the ministry to prevent further health risks.
