Anambra election: Army debunks viral video of involvement in electoral activities

The Nigerian Army has dismissed a viral video circulating online claiming that soldiers were used in the Anambra State election. The Army described the video as false and misleading, noting that it was created to cause confusion and raise tension during the electoral process. Officials emphasized that the military did not interfere in any part of the election activities.

In a statement, the Army clarified that its personnel were only deployed to ensure peace and security around the election environment. They stressed that maintaining nationwide security is their role, not participating directly in voting or electoral procedures. The military urged the public to ignore the false footage and avoid spreading unverified information online.

Security authorities further explained that some individuals may have shared the video to create distrust in the election process. They warned those responsible for misinformation to desist, as such actions can cause panic and disrupt public order. The Army also encouraged citizens to remain calm and trust credible sources for election updates.

The force reaffirmed its position on neutrality in all democratic activities across the country. It maintained that the Nigerian Army is committed to protecting democracy and supports the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) without taking sides. According to the statement, the military’s priority is to safeguard lives and property during sensitive national events like elections.

Finally, the Army called on media platforms and social media users to always verify information before posting or sharing. They urged Nigerians to report suspicious content to authorities to avoid spreading false rumors. The military restated that it will continue to defend Nigeria’s unity and promote peace at all times.
