Trump’s threat: Nigeria’s leadership playing politics over next action – Iroegbu

Political commentator and scholar, Prof. Peter Iroegbu, has accused Nigeria’s leadership of playing politics in response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s military threat over the alleged killing of Christians in the country. Speaking on Friday, Iroegbu warned that political maneuvering could undermine national security and delay necessary action.

According to Iroegbu, the government’s handling of the situation appears more focused on optics and political gains rather than a decisive strategy to address terrorism and insurgency. He stressed that the people of Nigeria expect prompt and effective measures to safeguard lives and ensure stability.

The analyst also called on President Bola Tinubu and his administration to prioritize national interests over partisan considerations. He emphasized that leadership should act swiftly, decisively, and transparently to prevent further escalation of threats and maintain public confidence.

Iroegbu further noted that international scrutiny, including Trump’s warning, should serve as a wake-up call for Nigerian authorities to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts. He suggested that collaboration with security agencies, community leaders, and regional partners is crucial to addressing the root causes of violence.

He concluded by urging Nigerian leaders to focus on tangible action rather than rhetoric, warning that delays could embolden terrorist groups and increase risks to citizens, ultimately affecting Nigeria’s global image and internal peace.
