A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ogewu, has denied claims that he referred to Nigerian youths as “fools” during a recent public engagement. The lawmaker addressed the controversy in a statement, insisting that his remarks were misinterpreted by some members of the public and the media.
Ogewu explained that his comments were intended to encourage constructive dialogue between young people and government officials. “At no point did I call Nigerian youths ‘fools’. My message has always been about engaging positively and contributing to national development,” he said.
The lawmaker emphasised the importance of youth participation in governance and policymaking, stating that young people are vital to the nation’s growth. He called on Nigerians and media outlets to verify statements before spreading misinformation that could harm public trust.
Ogewu’s clarification comes amid growing tensions over youth engagement and political representation in the country. Many youths have been vocal about being misrepresented, and the representative urged all parties to foster mutual respect and understanding.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young Nigerians and ensure their voices are heard in legislative processes. Ogewu called for patience, dialogue, and unity as the country continues to address its social and political challenges.
