I don’t care about awards – Omah Lay reacts to Grammy nomination

Nigerian singer Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has shared his thoughts on his first-ever Grammy nomination. The rising star earned the nomination for his collaboration with Davido, the song “With You”, in the Best African Music Performance category at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.

Reacting on Instagram, Omah Lay admitted he was excited about the recognition but insisted that awards are not his priority. He emphasized that the achievement itself is meaningful, but he does not care about winning. “I’m excited about this Grammy nomination haha but fr fr I don’t give a sh!t about awards,” he wrote.

Despite his own nomination, Omah Lay expressed that he wants the award to go to Davido, describing the superstar as his realest friend who has supported him through tough times. He praised Davido’s unwavering friendship and loyalty, stating, “Yeah but I really want it for OBO! he is the realest friend I’ve had in while, he stood by during my hardest times.”

Davido has been nominated for a Grammy four times but has yet to win, including two nominations in the Best African Music Performance category since it was introduced in 2023. The 2026 Grammy Awards are set to hold on February 1 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with a global broadcast on CBS and streaming via Paramount+.

Omah Lay’s reaction highlights a growing trend among artists who view recognition as validation of their work rather than a goal in itself. His candid response also underscores the deep personal bond he shares with Davido, showing that friendship and support matter more than trophies.
