The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has issued a strong directive to Nigerian troops in the North-East, urging them to brace for a major offensive against Boko Haram and ISWAP militants. Speaking to soldiers of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri on Friday, Shaibu stressed that the country has entered a decisive stage in its counter-insurgency campaign. He emphasized that this next phase will determine the overall success of the fight against terrorism in the region.
Shaibu reminded the troops of the significance of the mission ahead, making it clear that failure is not an option. According to him, the Nigerian Army has prepared extensively for this operation, providing new military platforms, advanced equipment, and other combat resources needed to ensure victory. He insisted that the approach this time will be different, promising that the latest support will strengthen the soldiers’ ability to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace.
Addressing the troops directly, the Army Chief praised their dedication and reminded them of the sacrifices made by their predecessors. He encouraged them to build on the legacy of those who fought in past national and international missions. Shaibu noted that the responsibility of this crucial phase rests on today’s generation of soldiers, urging them to show courage, discipline, and determination on the battlefield.
In his speech, the COAS highlighted the urgency of the situation and the importance of maintaining high morale and operational readiness. He assured the troops that the Nigerian Army leadership remains fully committed to providing necessary support, logistics, and welfare to enable them succeed. He also underscored the confidence the nation has in them to defend the country and uphold security in the North-East.
The Army Chief’s remarks come as Nigeria continues to intensify its efforts to end insurgency and stabilize affected communities. The troops were urged to remain focused, work as a united force, and stay committed to the final push to rid the region of terrorist threats once and for all.
