Benue Monarch Urges Trump To Expedite Action On Military Threat

A traditional ruler in Benue State, HRH Kumaga Jor of Yelwata community, has spoken in support of recent comments by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding violent attacks in Nigeria. The monarch urged Trump to act quickly on his statements about possible U.S. intervention to stop killings targeting Christian communities. He made the remarks while addressing journalists in Makurdi, where he expressed deep concern over rising insecurity.

The Yelwata community reportedly experienced a tragic attack in June 2025 in which about 200 residents lost their lives. Jor said these killings, along with similar incidents across Benue State, have left many families homeless and devastated. He claimed that the violence in his area was carried out by armed groups he described as religiously motivated attackers, adding that the situation has continued to cause fear among residents.

The royal father appreciated Trump for “speaking up for Christians” and called on him to follow through on his warnings. According to him, many villages have been destroyed and displaced people are struggling for survival. He believes international attention may help reduce the violence and push authorities to improve protection for vulnerable communities.

Jor also highlighted the suffering of thousands of displaced persons now living in camps across Benue State. He lamented that original inhabitants have been forced to abandon their ancestral homes due to persistent attacks and insecurity. The monarch said urgent action is needed to restore peace and allow people to return safely to their communities.

While expressing gratitude for global concern, he urged both Nigerian authorities and international allies to work together toward peace and justice. He emphasized that residents in affected areas are desperate for relief and want to see real solutions to end the cycle of violence and displacement.
