Police crack down on theft, vandalism syndicate, arrest 7 suspects in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested seven suspects believed to be responsible for a series of burglary and vandalism incidents in Damaturu. According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the arrests followed an intelligence–driven operation carried out by officers in partnership with community vigilantes.

The operation was launched after a rise in theft cases across Nayinawa, Pawari and Pompomari areas, where hand trucks, household valuables and other items had been targeted. Police said the coordinated effort successfully uncovered and disrupted a criminal gang operating in the affected communities.

The suspects, all between 18 and 24 years old, were identified as Abubakar Ibrahim, Aliyu Mohammed Haruna, Ibrahim Haruna, Abdul Ibrahim, Nafiu Ali, Always Arma Ya’u, and Abubakar Mohammed. Stolen items recovered during the arrest are currently marked as exhibits as investigations continue.

The police explained that efforts are ongoing to recover any remaining stolen belongings and to track down other accomplices who may still be at large. They assured residents that more security measures are in place to curb criminal activity in the state.

During a briefing with senior officers, the state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, urged personnel to remain alert and continue applying intelligence–based strategies and modern policing techniques to stay ahead of criminals and ensure public safety.
