DNA of Nigeria’s politics tainted with greed, treachery – Mahdi Shehu

Public commentator Mahdi Shehu has strongly criticised Nigeria’s political system, saying the major political parties are driven by selfishness and betrayal instead of good leadership. In a post shared on X titled “DNA Sketching of Political Parties and Other Groups in Nigeria,” Shehu described the nation’s politics as full of greed, deceit, and a lack of humanity. According to him, politics in the country has become a playground for people who care only about power and personal gain.

Shehu compared the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Biblical Pharaoh, claiming many members act with pride, wickedness, and a false belief that they can rule forever. He noted that though there might be some honest individuals in the party, the dominant character of its members, according to him, reflects dictatorship and arrogance. He reminded Nigerians how Pharaoh eventually faced humiliation, hinting that arrogance never lasts.

Speaking about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Shehu described the party as a group of “repentant wolves” still searching for new victims. He said the party has damaged itself and is struggling for survival, predicting it may collapse without anyone willing to pray at its funeral. For the Labour Party (LP), he said the party has good members but is still full of envy, greed, and betrayal, alleging that some members have already sold their loyalty for money.

On the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Shehu likened its members to desperate contenders united only by power struggles. He claimed they have hatred in their hearts and carry a strong sense of entitlement. He also noted that many smaller political parties only become active during elections, looking for financial benefits and later accusing the system of rigging when they fail.

Quoting the Bible (James 4:1–4), Shehu said the root problem in Nigerian politics is selfish desire and greed. He stated that this mindset has created a nation where citizens live with suffering, fear, instability, and lack of compassion. He ended his message by describing the situation as sad and shameful, calling for deep reflection on the moral foundations of Nigerian politics.
