INEC gives update on ADA, 7 other political parties seeking registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided fresh information regarding the African Democratic Alliance (ADA) and seven other political groups seeking official registration as political parties in Nigeria. INEC said it is still reviewing their applications and following the legal process set out in the constitution and the Electoral Act.

According to the Commission, each group must meet all requirements before approval can be granted. These include having a clear national presence, meeting organisational standards, and submitting proper documentation. INEC noted that the screening process is to ensure only serious and well-structured political parties are registered, unlike groups that appear only during election seasons.

INEC explained that the verification process involves physical inspections, documentation checks, and thorough assessments of each applicant’s structure across the country. The Commission also emphasised that it will not rush the process or bend the rules for anyone. It added that political associations must respect the law and demonstrate long-term commitment to national political development.

The Commission stressed that it is committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy by ensuring transparency in the registration process. It also reminded applicants that not all groups will automatically qualify for approval. INEC urged interested organisations to remain patient while the review continues and assured that final decisions will be announced publicly once completed.

Political analysts believe the outcome will influence Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections, as more parties could mean more options for voters. For now, all eyes remain on INEC to see which associations will meet the criteria and officially join the nation’s political arena.
