The Action Alliance (AA) has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged partial compliance with a court judgment. According to the party, the court had earlier ruled in its favour on issues related to its leadership and candidate lists. However, AA claims INEC only complied with some parts of the ruling and ignored others, which the party believes is unfair and illegal.
In a statement, the party leadership expressed disappointment, saying that INEC should fully respect court decisions and treat all political parties equally. They argued that failure to obey court rulings undermines trust in Nigeria’s democratic process. The party also stressed that court orders are not optional and must be followed without selective interpretation.
The Action Alliance further accused INEC of attempting to frustrate its political activities by not recognising all its approved candidates and officials as ordered by the court. They called on the electoral body to urgently correct the situation to avoid legal consequences and political tension ahead of future elections. The party warned that disobeying the rule of law could set a dangerous precedent.
Officials of the party also appealed to President Bola Tinubu and relevant authorities to intervene and ensure INEC complies fully. According to them, democracy only thrives when institutions follow the law and treat all players fairly. They also encouraged the judiciary to monitor the situation to ensure enforcement of its ruling.
The Action Alliance reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful political participation but stated it would continue to pursue full compliance through all legal means. The party urged supporters to remain calm, confident that justice would prevail. They concluded by stressing that respect for court judgments is key to strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system and democratic future.
