Rescued children reunited with parents as police nab two suspects for child trafficking, conspiracy in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has confirmed that some of the children rescued from a suspected child trafficking syndicate in October 2025 have been successfully reunited with their parents. The announcement was made in a statement by DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, on Monday.

According to the statement, parents who were able to provide valid proof of identity and ownership were allowed to reclaim their children. Among those reunited were Mr. Akinrinola Aliya Ayomide from Lagos State, who was joyfully reunited with his daughter, Akinrinola Aliyat Ayomide, and Mr. Oladapo Olanipekun, also from Lagos, who identified his son, Master Olanipekun Akoede Daniel.

The police spokesperson urged anyone whose child is still missing to visit the Gender Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) or contact the Officer-in-Charge of Gender for assistance. She reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that all rescued children are safely returned to their rightful families.

In a related development, the command confirmed the arrest of two women, identified as Chinasa Ukachukwu and Adaoma Sunday, for alleged involvement in child trafficking and criminal conspiracy. The suspects were reportedly apprehended after the police received credible intelligence linking them to trafficking operations in the state.

DSP Chinaka added that the two suspects have been charged to court as investigations continue. She assured the public that the Abia Police Command will intensify its crackdown on child trafficking networks to ensure justice and protect children from exploitation.
