The Anambra State Government has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo plans to go after Catholic priests following his re-election. The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, described the viral report as false, baseless, and malicious.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, Mefor said the story being circulated by some bloggers was a fabricated piece of propaganda aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary tension in the state. According to him, Soludo never made any comment against Catholic priests or the Church.
“The attention of the Anambra State Government has been drawn to a fake report alleging that Governor Soludo intends to arrest Catholic bishops and priests after his re-election. This story is completely false and designed to cause disunity,” Mefor stated.
He stressed that Governor Soludo remains a devoted member of the Catholic Church and holds deep respect for religious leaders. Mefor added that the state government continues to fight fake news and would not allow falsehoods to destabilize peace and unity in Anambra.
“We urge Ndi Anambra to disregard this misinformation. The government will continue its genuine campaign against fake native doctors, fake spiritualists, and impostors parading as religious leaders,” the commissioner said.
