The Kebbi State House of Assembly has approved a bill to create a Senior Secondary Education Board, aimed at improving the management and quality of senior secondary education across the state. The bill’s passage marks a significant step toward strengthening educational structures and aligning them with national standards.
The bill was passed during the plenary session on Tuesday after the presentation of a detailed report by the House Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, chaired by Muhammad Garba Bena, who represents Danko/Wasagu East. Bena noted that the bill had gone through the required first and second readings before being reviewed by his committee, which held consultations with key stakeholders, including officials from the State Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education.
According to Bena, the new board will be responsible for developing policies, managing resources, and enhancing students’ welfare across all senior secondary schools in Kebbi State. It will also ensure that educational programs meet both state and national standards while promoting academic excellence.
During the plenary, the Speaker of the House, Mohammed Usman Zuru, commended the lawmakers for their commitment to education reform. He said the establishment of the board would improve coordination, efficiency, and performance within the senior secondary school system and help equip students with the skills needed for academic and professional growth.
Following its passage, the bill will now be forwarded to Governor Nasir Idris for his approval and assent, after which the board will begin formal operations to drive the state’s education agenda forward.
