In a surprising political twist, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during a televised broadcast on Tuesday, marking a major realignment in the state’s political landscape.
Governor Mbah explained that his decision came after “deep reflection” and was guided by the desire to advance the progress of Enugu State. “Today, after a long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” he declared.
The governor said he initially joined the PDP with a mission to transform Enugu and strengthen its political foundation. However, he now believes that aligning with the APC offers a new opportunity for growth, unity, and development. “Today, I stand before you to announce a break from the past and to share a decision that will shape the road ahead,” he stated.
Emphasizing the weight of his choice, Mbah described it as a painful but necessary move driven by leadership principles. He noted that true leadership often requires making bold decisions that may not please everyone but are aimed at securing a better future for the people.
Political observers say Mbah’s defection could reshape the balance of power in Enugu and the Southeast, traditionally seen as a PDP stronghold. His entry into the APC is expected to strengthen the ruling party’s influence in the region ahead of upcoming elections.
