Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has assured Nigerians that the team is fully prepared to give their all when they face Benin Republic in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
The three-time African champions currently sit third in Group C with 14 points from nine matches. To qualify, Nigeria must defeat the Cheetahs of Benin and hope South Africa drop points against Rwanda in the group’s other fixture.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Troost-Ekong admitted that Nigeria’s qualification chances are not fully in their hands. However, he maintained that the team is focused and motivated to end the qualifying series on a positive note.
“There are players here who want to make names for themselves and those who want their names to go down in history,” Troost-Ekong said. “So, they are fully prepared and will play to win. Tomorrow may not be 100 percent in our hands, but we’ll do our best to get the victory.”
The Super Eagles, led by coach Éric Chelle, have been training intensely in Uyo, with fans hopeful that the team will rise to the occasion. Troost-Ekong’s words reflect the squad’s determination to secure all three points and keep their qualification hopes alive.
