President Bola Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, has reacted strongly to claims made by U.S. Congressman Riley Moore, who alleged that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Dada described the American lawmaker as “ignorant” about the true religious situation in the country.
Dada stated that Nigeria is a “proud, sovereign nation built on faith and resilience,” stressing that no religion or community is under attack. He added that “churches, mosques, and traditional shrines stand side by side — not as rivals, but as symbols of unity that bind us together.”
His reaction came after Congressman Moore described Nigeria as “the deadliest country in the world for Christians” and urged the U.S. Secretary of State to label Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern.” Moore claimed that since 2009, over 50,000 Christians have been killed, thousands of priests attacked, and many churches destroyed.
Responding to both Moore and Senator Ted Cruz, who made similar remarks earlier, Dada insisted that their claims were misleading and unfair. He urged American officials to seek a proper understanding of Nigeria’s diverse culture and religious tolerance before making public statements.
