Dangote Reduces Cooking Gas Price To ₦760/kg

In a move that promises relief to millions of Nigerian households, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has once again reduced the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas. The refinery announced a new ex-depot price of ₦760 per kilogram, down from ₦810 just last week. This marks the second major price reduction in less than a month and reinforces Dangote’s growing influence in making energy more affordable for Nigerians.

Compared to other major depots, Dangote’s price remains significantly lower. Matrix and Ardova currently sell LPG at ₦920/kg, while A.Y.M Shafa and NIPCO go for ₦910/kg. Meanwhile, Stockgap Depot sells at around ₦950/kg. This wide price gap, ranging from ₦150 to ₦190 per kilogram, highlights how Dangote is reshaping Nigeria’s gas market and pushing competitors to rethink their pricing strategies.

Energy experts describe this move as a deliberate effort by the Dangote Group to stabilize gas prices, support local consumers, and discourage unnecessary price hikes in the market. They also note that the refinery’s pricing aligns with Nigeria’s clean energy goals by making LPG more accessible, reducing the use of firewood and charcoal, and encouraging cleaner cooking methods across homes.

Nigerians have welcomed the price cut, hoping that the reduction will soon reflect at the retail level, where end users often face inflated costs. If the refinery continues this pricing trend, analysts believe it could transform the domestic energy landscape, boost affordability, and enhance the transition toward cleaner, sustainable energy sources nationwide.
