Boko Haram Once Chose Buhari As Negotiator, Says Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that at the height of the Boko Haram insurgency, the terrorist group once insisted that Muhammadu Buhari should serve as a negotiator on their behalf. Jonathan explained that the insurgents named Buhari as someone they trusted to represent them in talks, showing how desperate the situation had become at the time.

According to Jonathan, this choice was surprising but also highlighted the seriousness of the negotiations. He stressed that his administration was open to dialogue if it would bring peace, but handling the group required great caution. He noted that terrorism posed challenges beyond politics, and the country needed unity in addressing it.

Jonathan also used the opportunity to remind Nigerians that fighting insecurity requires a collective effort. He maintained that dialogue, international support, and strong local security measures remain key to achieving long-lasting peace in the country.
