The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, has announced the resumption of plenary following the suspension of emergency rule in the state. The lawmakers are expected to reconvene on Thursday at the Conference Hall within the legislative quarters in Port Harcourt, which has served as their temporary chamber.
The Assembly has been unable to use its official chamber on Moscow Road since it was attacked and set ablaze by arsonists earlier in the year. The shift to the conference hall has allowed legislative activities to continue despite the challenges.
This development follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive on Wednesday lifting the six-month suspension imposed on March 18. With the emergency rule now over, Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the lawmakers have been asked to return to their constitutional duties.
The resumption of plenary marks a critical step towards restoring governance in Rivers State, with residents hoping for political stability and progress after months of tension and uncertainty.
