The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has dismissed the claims that Nigerian athletes received low-quality sports kits at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Earlier, former world champion and 100m hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan, had criticized the government for giving athletes “poor kits” ahead of the championship in Japan.
Reacting to her claims, Dikko in an interview with Channels TV this morning, said;
‘’Those kits are not inferior or whatever people are trying to say, If you look at other countries, they are using similar kits. It is just probably about the packaging because it was not put in a box or not bought in bulk.
I don’t want to go into Tobi, she is our star athlete, I respect her alot and we honor her alot. She did the video. It is what it is but it is not the case.”
Dikko also reacted to concerns that the Nigerian team had more government officials than athletes in its delegation to the global event.
