The Lagos State Police Command has exposed the man who claimed to be the “Obi of Lagos,” describing him as a fraud.
His much-publicized plan to unveil a ₦1.5 billion palace was revealed to be a scam created to trick unsuspecting Nigerians into giving away their money.
According to the police, the main suspect, Chibuike Azubike, admitted during interrogation that he is not a trained engineer as he claimed.
Instead, he only supplies construction materials to companies but had been parading himself as an engineer to deceive people.
Investigations further revealed that the planned palace unveiling was not genuine but a carefully designed scheme to collect money from prominent individuals and ordinary Nigerians under false pretenses.
Police confirmed that Azubike acted alone and had no support from any recognized chieftaincy authority in Lagos.
They urged the public to disregard his misleading claims and online publications, which they said were intended to cause confusion and division.
The command added that investigations are still ongoing, and all those linked to the scam will be prosecuted in court once the process is completed.
Azubike and three others were arrested on Wednesday after the palace invitation went viral on social media, sparking outrage. Many Nigerians strongly condemned him for addressing himself as the “Obi of Lagos.”
