Nigerian doctor planning to relocate to the UK slumps and d!es after being on duty for 72-hours

A young resident doctor at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Femi Rotifa, has died after working three days in a row without rest.

According to reports, he had been on continuous emergency duty for 72 hours. After retreating to the call room to rest, he suddenly collapsed. Despite efforts by colleagues to revive him, he was confirmed dead.

The President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, Dr. Tope Osundara, confirmed the sad incident.

He explained that Dr. Rotifa was the only doctor available in the emergency ward, and the heavy workload overwhelmed him. He described the situation as a death on duty caused by overstretched manpower.

Dr. Rotifa was a former President of the Port Harcourt University Medical Students’ Association and had already registered with the UK’s General Medical Council, awaiting his placement abroad. His untimely passing has left many heartbroken.

Friends and fellow doctors have since taken to social media to mourn him, sharing tributes and expressing sadness over the loss of a promising young doctor who had dreams of a brighter future.
