Hollywood actress Jamie Lee Curtis revealed that she almost met Princess Diana, just a few minutes away from a face-to-face encounter, weeks before the princess tragically died in 1997.
On the 28th anniversary of Diana’s death, Curtis, now 66, shared on Instagram that Diana was supposed to visit the filming of Fierce Creatures, the follow-up to A Fish Called Wanda.
Curtis explained that filming was happening deep in the woods at Pinewood Studios. She stepped away briefly to use the restroom.
“I hopped into a golf cart to head back to the dressing rooms,” she wrote. But during that short time, Diana arrived on set with her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
“My driver started knocking on the door, saying Diana had arrived with her sons,” Curtis recalled. She rushed back in the golf cart, but by the time she arrived, Diana was already leaving.
Even though they didn’t meet, Curtis sent a heartfelt letter to Kensington Palace. To her surprise, Diana replied the very next day.
In her note, Diana thanked Curtis and joked that she completely understood why Curtis missed her — after all, “nature calls” for everyone, even royals.
Sadly, that meeting never happened. Just a few weeks later, Diana died in a car accident in Paris at age 36, alongside Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul.
Curtis said she processed the news through a meditation book she was reading at the time, which asked: Did I live wisely? Did I love well?
Thinking about Diana, Curtis reflected on how the princess lived thoughtfully, loved deeply, and showed great compassion to the world.
“Even now, I’m still moved by her grace and courage,” Curtis added, “but I take comfort knowing she lived a mindful, loving, and wise life.”
