UK bans over 100 jobs from foreign recruitment to curb migration

The United Kingdom government has announced strict new rules stopping more than 100 jobs from being filled by foreign workers. The move is designed to reduce net migration and create more opportunities for local residents.

The Home Office shared on X on Saturday, August 30, that the new restrictions are part of a plan to give priority to British workers and reshape the visa system.

The statement explained that cutting net migration starts with getting the basics right. Over 100 jobs will no longer be available to overseas workers, opening up more roles for British citizens and forming a fairer, skill-focused system.

This decision is part of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s latest immigration reforms. Starmer took office on July 5, 2024, after Labour’s landslide victory, replacing former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

While the government says the changes will create more opportunities for UK workers, critics warn that sectors like health and social care, which rely heavily on foreign staff, may face more serious staff shortages.

The Home Office has not yet published the complete list of jobs that will no longer be open to foreign workers.
