In a video shared with his followers, Marafa, speaking in Hausa, explained his decision to part ways with the ruling party.
The ex-lawmaker accused APC of betraying its members and being badly divided in Zamfara State. He noted that he had spent the last two days in serious discussions with his supporters about the party’s poor performance over the past two years.
According to Marafa, the situation in Zamfara was worse than in other places because of the high level of betrayal and internal division.
He said: “I want to tell my supporters in Zamfara, the North, and Nigeria at large that after several meetings over the past two days, we agreed that APC has failed us. The party has cheated and betrayed us in Zamfara and across Nigeria.”
Marafa also blamed the unresolved leadership conflict between Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, and former Zamfara Governor, Bello Matawalle, who is now Nigeria’s Defence Minister.
He explained: “Since Bala Buni took charge of APC from Matawalle, not a single party meeting has been held. The party has been split into two factions — one loyal to Buni and the other to Matawalle. For over two years, nothing has been done to settle this crisis.”
Because of these problems, Marafa declared that he is officially leaving the APC. However, he added that consultations are ongoing and he will soon announce the political party he plans to join next.
